PRESS: Russian govt prepares transport development strategy 2036

MOSCOW, Feb 27 (PRIME) -- The Russian government has prepared a draft transport strategy 2036, envisaging a significant growth of passenger and cargo traffic, business daily Kommersant reported on Thursday, citing the document.

The first stage of the strategy, running until 2024, includes fulfillment of the May orders of the president in the basic scenario, including by rising capacity of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) and the Trans–Siberian Railway (Transsib) to 180 million tonnes, development of the Western China-Europe transport corridor, the International North–South Transport Corridor, and full-scale development of the Northeast Passage.

The program includes construction of high-speed railway Eurasia. Development of federal highways will be priority with investment at 11 trillion rubles.

The second stage of the strategy, until 2036, supposes to focus on people’s mobility by stimulating it via federal and regional programs based on project management.

The airline 2036 traffic is to triple as compared with 2018, railway and metro traffic will rise about 50% in the period. The cargo transshipment in the sea ports can rise by 51–58% to 1.23–1.29 billion tonnes. The Northeast Passage traffic can amount to 82 million tonnes in 2025 under the basic forecast and 105 million tonnes in 2036.
